Kia ora,

The Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) is a new temporary work visa opening to applications on 4 July 2022.

There are 3 steps to hiring a migrant on an AEWV. These are accreditation, the job check, and the AEWV application. Employers can apply for accreditation from 23 May 2022 and for a job check from 20 June 2022.

The Essential Skills Work Visa will close to applications on 3 July 2022.

Employer accreditation information available

Detailed information about employer accreditation is now available on the Immigration New Zealand website. This content covers the requirements employers will need to meet and the evidence they may need to provide. For most employers, accreditation will be a simple and relatively low-touch assessment, and INZ will work to process applications quickly.

Estimated processing timeframes

We have estimated how long it will take to process applications. The accreditation timeframes are typical for applications where the employer has a standard business model and no history of non-compliance. For all applications, the estimate assumes that all information necessary to make a decision has been provided at the time of application.

Application Estimated processing timeframe
Standard and high-volume accreditation  10 working days
 Job check  10 working days
Accredited Employer Work Visa  20 working days

When to apply for accreditation

Applications for employer accreditation open on 23 May 2022.

Employers who do not plan to hire migrant workers on AEWVs in July do not need to apply for accreditation immediately. Employers should wait to apply until they plan to start using their accreditation.

Employers can continue to support migrant workers on an Essential Skills Work Visa until this category closes to applications on 3 July 2022. Workers that hold an Essential Skills Work Visa can continue to work under the conditions of their visa until it expires.
